I-45 Gulf Freeway Shut Down for Hours After Fatal Crash

(HOUSTON, November 2019) – A fatal collision shut down all lanes of the I-45 Gulf Freeway at Edgebrook, just north of Beltway 8 for several hours as authorities worked to clear the scene and investigate the cause of the crash.

According to reports, a box truck was traveling on the Gulf Freeway service road into the city when it crossed a grassy median and into the main lanes of traffic. The box truck struck a red pickup truck before hitting a divider and ending up on its side. This is a developing story, so the Houston truck accident attorneys of the Mokaram Law Firm will continue to monitor for updates and will post any new details that emerge here on our accident blog.

18-Wheeler Crashes into Bridge, Splits in Half on 1-45

(HOUSTON, November 2019) – An eighteen-wheeler truck struck a bridge and split in half on the North Freeway, causing both the northbound and southbound lanes to be shut down as cleanup crews worked to clear the scene. The accident occurred at the Shepherd Hill overpass, where the truck struck and cracked a beam. The driver of the vehicle says that a truck malfunction caused the crash. He believes that the dump bed was not working properly and engaged suddenly while he was driving, raising the bed and striking the bridge.

The Houston 18-wheeler accident attorneys of Mokaram Law Firm will update this story if more details emerge. Accidents involving 18-wheelers can be particularly dangerous due to the sheer size and weight of these vehicles, so it is crucial for truck drivers to exercise caution whenever driving. If the vehicle manufacturer or third party maintenance company was responsible for the lift-bed malfunction and someone had been hurt or killed, that entity could have been held liable for the crash. Fortunately, in this case, no one was injured, according to reports at this time.

Planning Ahead: Best and Worst Times to Navigate Houston Traffic This Thanksgiving Week

(HOUSTON, November 2019) – As a recent USA Today story pointed out, drivers in Houston can expect our already crowded roads and highways to be particularly difficult to navigate this week, due to the Thanksgiving Holiday. According to the report (and anyone who has driven these roads on holiday weeks), Houston drivers can expect their commutes to take up to 3 1/2 times longer than normal.

With increased traffic comes an increase in the number of accidents. While not all accidents that happen this holiday week will be serious (most will likely be minor fender benders), with more people on the road, distracted driving, intoxicated driving, and other factors all will inevitably result in some severe and potentially fatal wrecks on our roads here in Houston.

To help keep you safe this week, we’ve provided the following information on major road closures and the best time to travel during the Thanksgiving break.

According to AAA and ABC13, you can expect to find heavy traffic at the following locations:

Monday and Tuesday

Beltway 8 East, from 249 to US-59 (3:00 p.m.)

Tuesday

I-45 — the Gulf Freeway (5:00 p.m.)

On I-10 East (5:00 p.m.)

I-45 North (6:45 p.m.)

AAA reports that the best time to depart to visit friends and family is on Thanksgiving Day, before noon.

Two drivers who were involved in a minor fender bender were out of their vehicles and talking to a wrecker driver on the side of the road. Authorities believe that a speeding car lost control and crashed into the tow truck, and swerved into the men as they were exchanging information, sending them flying into the HOV lane.

HPD are investigating the crash and believe that drunk driving may have been the cause of the second collision. If the driver is found to have been intoxicated, he could be charged with intoxication manslaughter, according to ABC13 Houston.
